One service, ten in the morning, about seventy-five minutes. This is what is in it.

Services

Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month. Everyone who would normally receive it anywhere else is welcome to here.

The shape of the hour

Seventy-five minutes, in roughly this order, every week.

  1. Coffee, from half nine. In the hall at the back, before anything starts.
  2. Three or four songs. Words on the screen and in print. Standing is optional and always has been.
  3. A reading. From the Bible, printed in the order of service so you are not hunting for it.
  4. A talk, about twenty-five minutes. On the reading. Recorded, and on this site by Monday.
  5. Prayers. Led from the front; you are not asked to pray aloud.
  6. Children go out, or do not. Groups for 3–11s in the hall. Staying in is fine.
  7. Coffee again. For as long as anybody wants it.

Music

A band, an organ, and no fixed rule

Most weeks it is a small band. On the first Sunday of the month and at the great festivals the organ leads and we sing hymns properly, because the building was built for it and it would be a waste not to.

The choir rehearses on Friday evenings and takes anybody who can hold a tune. There is no audition and there never has been.

Under 3

Stay in with you. There is a rug, a box of books and a bag of quiet toys at the front, and nobody minds the noise — a silent church is a dying one.

3 to 11

Out to the hall twenty minutes in, back for the end. Stories, making things, a lot of glue. You are welcome to come with them, and first-timers usually do.

11 to 18

Meets on Sunday evenings rather than during the service, at the vicarage, with food. Everyone leading it is DBS-checked and trained, and two adults are present at all times.
